چکیده

High velocity air fuel (HVAF) spraying is an emergent thermal spray process, which used in this work to realize high-performance large area tribological coatings of nickel-phosphorus cladded cubic-boron nitride (c-BN) particles. To the best authors’ knowledge, first time that HVAF has been utilized for developing Ni–P reinforced with c-BN (NBN). The importance appropriate processing was highlighted by utilizing two different nozzle configurations, microstructure, phase analysis and hardness results demonstrates considerable differences. Furthermore, were subjected sliding wear tests assess their friction characteristics. Post-wear SEM reveals associated mechanisms. Effect annealing on performance NBN also examined, it shown optimal can preclude need post-treatment. Results ensuing from lay foundation new generation HVAF-sprayed resistant metal/c-BN composite diverse applications.

Preparation of nanocrystalline TiN coated cubic boron nitride powders by a sol-gel process.

Cubic boron nitride (cBN) particles coated with 20 wt% nanocrystalline TiN were prepared by coating the surface of cBN particles with TiO2, followed by nitridation with NH3 gas at 900 degrees C. Coating of TiO2 on cBN powders was accomplished by a sol-gel process from a solution of titanium (IV) isopropoxide and anhydrous ethanol. An amorphous TiO(x) layer of 50 nm thickness was homogenously fo...

Aqueous compatible boron nitride nanosheets for high-performance hydrogels.

Hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) possess ultimate thermal and chemical stabilities and mechanical strengths. However, the unmodified BNNSs are hydrophobic and insoluble in water, which hinders their use in many technological areas requiring aqueous compatibility. In this work, h-BN was treated with molten citric acid to produce aqueous dispersible boron nitride sheets (ca-BNNSs). The ...

Application of High-Velocity Oxygen-Fuel (HVOF) Spraying to the Fabrication of Yb-Silicate Environmental Barrier Coatings

From the literature, it is known that due to their glass formation tendency, it is not possible to deposit fully-crystalline silicate coatings when the conventional atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) process is employed. In APS, rapid quenching of the sprayed material on the substrate facilitates the amorphous deposit formation, which shrinks when exposed to heat and forms pores and/or cracks. T...

The tribological performance of coated and non-coated materials in high temperature environments

Variable geometry (VG) and wastegate mechanisms are commonplace within modern turbochargers and contain critical components without which the correct and efficient operation of a turbomachine would be affected. Such mechanisms rely upon components repeatedly and accurately moving against one another, even when subjected to extreme conditions such as high temperatures, a range of exhaust gas che...
